Application Monitoring and the Cloud. A Match Made in Heaven.

Some things are just destined to be together. You know what I’m talking about. There are things in life that require the presence of a complementary counterpart in order to truly thrive. On their own, their presence is limited. Together, however, pure magic. Magic I SAY!!  It’s truly an example of 1+1=4.  Application monitoring and the cloud are no different. On their own, they are certainly formidable. But together? A match made in heaven.

Here are some other examples of how things are better together versus apart:

  • Milli and Vanilli
  • Ren and Stimpy
  • Bill and Ted
  • Jay and Silent Bob

Don’t act like you don’t know exactly what I am talking about. So, what’s the point?  Why are you still reading this?  You’re still reading because you’re intrigued by the notion of being able to monitor your production applications in a matter of seconds. You’re still reading because the idea of preventing application problems before they affect your business and customers is as exciting as…peanut butter and jelly? You get the point…

Combining the power of thorough application monitoring with the speed of SaaS allows you to:

  • Pinpoint and solve application issues before they happen
  • Monitor production apps to prevent outages
  • Support agile development cycles and deployments
  • Understand how applications affects infrastructure resources

The traditional approach to application monitoring is largely based on silo’d tools that manage the individual components of your application stack.  The challenge is that these tools only give you one perspective of the application; for example a database or an application server. But what about the end user?  What about key business processes? The next generation of application monitoring tools go beyond the underlying infrastructure and focus on end-user and real business outcomes. All in a simple and fast way, via the cloud!

The growing complexity of IT systems (through the use of web services, integration, middleware, etc.), underscores the need for application monitoring needs to adapt accordingly. The ability to proactively monitor business-critical applications and find and fix problems quickly (even before they happen sometimes) is a must-have for any businesses seeking to remain competitive in today’s application-centric marketplace.

Just a few more:

  • Vodka and tonic
  • Siskel & Ebert
  • Good & Plenty
  • Dumb & Dumber

Coupling application monitoring with the cloud is a no-brainer (like milk and cookies). The cloud provides a quick, easy and simply way to proactively monitor production apps and solve problems before they happen.
